Location: Messe München, International Crafts Fair – B1.738

The Value of Nothing
challenges the conventional metrics of worth in jewellery, where carats, grams, and market prices have long dictated what we consider valuable. This exhibition asks a fundamental question: What if the essence of preciousness lies beyond the tangible?

At its core, the exhibition explores a paradox, that meaning often emerges from what remains unseen.
The artists gathered here embrace subtraction as a creative language. Where absence might suggest loss, they reveal it as generative potential. Emptiness becomes architecture, silence transforms into resonance, and the invisible acquires presence.

‘Nothing’ emerges not as void but as possibility, a conceptual space where ideas crystallise, where intention becomes form, and where creativity transcends the limitations of physical matter. It is in this space that research, experimentation, and artistic consciousness generate their own intrinsic worth.

Visitors will encounter works created through traditional metalsmithing and lost-wax casting, alongside experimental practices like electroforming and flame-working glass. Some artists draw inspiration from nature’s intricate systems, while others delve into cultural mythology and folklore reimagined through a contemporary lens. Personal narratives of loneliness, memory, and cross-cultural identity transform into wearable sculptures, while sustainable practices and upcycled materials challenge the industry’s relationship with consumption.

The Value of Nothing
invites us to recalibrate our understanding of what makes something precious. It suggests that true value is not always held in the hand but in the meaning we assign, and in the quiet power of what is deliberately left unspoken.

HOOROON, a Curatorial Studio founded by Eleonora Varotto, dedicated to making contemporary jewellery accessible and understandable, joins forces with the Cultural Association Arte Design Venezia, led by Lisa Balasso, which promotes art and design while enhancing Venice’s artistic heritage.

Together, they present
The Value of Nothing, an exhibition that questions what makes jewellery truly precious. Proposing that value lies not in materials but in the immaterial: it is the idea, intention, and artistic vision that give depth to each piece.

The exhibition brings together an international collective of artists working across diverse media and techniques, creating a rich dialogue between traditions and innovations, cultures and geographies. The collective spans generations – emerging talents work alongside established artists with extensive exhibition histories. What unites them is a shared commitment to conceptual depth, whether balancing classical craftsmanship with avant-garde vision or celebrating imperfection as beauty.
