Matzakow dedicates to the archaic and cultic character of jewellery. Her works celebrate the female body as an image of power, beauty and magic existence. Using the eggs of chickens and quails, the bowels of cows and sheep, wire and wood, the works provoke not only the impression of a sort of potent primitivism, but include also a critical statement concerning conventional concepts. The mighty dimension, the confusing and shocking physical presence and appearance, offers a particular and impressive performance.
Jasmin Matzakow, born in 1982 in Aachen, Germany. Studied in Halle and Stockholm. Assistant to Karen Pontoppidan from 2016-2021. Speaker of the president of the Academy in Munich since 2021. Artist studio in Munich. Workshops and lectures in different places. Works in public collections. Award of the City of Munich 2022.
