On display are different positions of jewellery, product, and object – showcasing the process from experiment through to finished result.
Prof. Jantje Fleischhut and Prof. Uli Budde jointly head the department and with their respective expertise represent the disciplines of jewellery and product design. Both have creative backgrounds in Germany as well as the Netherlands. Together they are looking forward to a lively exchange and interesting dialogue during the exhibition. On Friday at 5 pm we welcome you with drinks at the opening of the exhibition.

Students and alumni of the New Craft Object Design department of the Peter Behrens School of Arts at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences present various positions on jewellery and product design in the exhibition Stand der Dinge (State of Things).

The New Craft Object Design programme examines current social, ecological and political themes and stimulates interest in innovative solutions. We are interested in substance and content, not just surface. With a focus on jewellery, products and objects, we take a creative approach to important and urgent issues.
We observe, discover, grasp, sense, conceive, analyse, experiment, inspire, examine, shape, desire and touch.

The students are creators with a sensitivity for material, form and content and exploring new fields of endeavour. The analogue merges with the digital, the classical challenges new interactions with software. In the end, they create innovative objects for use, centered on people, the user, the wearer and their environment. Clear analyses, innovative concepts, diverse production methods and artistic experiments are discussed and developed into individual pieces and/or series.

The students’ previous experience in different crafts brings a great diversity of expertise to the exchange. By learning new technologies, they can ultimately navigate competently and confidently between the different practices; use them creatively and combine them professionally. Linking different technical and artistic positions generates innovative results.
The curriculum is open to all directions of art and design; both series and the unique are of equal value here. Together with the Department of Architecture, the Department of Design forms the Peter Behrens School of Arts at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences.
