SHORT STORIES

„The jolly art, of making something very bright and moving; it may be horrible or pathetic or funny or profoundly illuminating…“
HG Wells on Short Stories

These characteristics of the short story genre can easily be applied to Bauhuis’ and Buck’s visual universe. Their jewellery is characterised by a interplay of suggestions and omissions, reduction and richness of detail. To decipher this universe of associations, allusions, and possibilities, audience participation is crucial. In return they will get stories that span a wide range, from the absurd and humorous to the existential and political.
(Jorunn Veiteberg)

Peter Bauhuis was born in Germany and studied jewellery and object making at the Zeichenakademie in Hanau and the Munich Academy of Fine Arts. He lives and works in Munich. Peter Bauhuis‘ work includes objects, jewellery, and installations, also his numerous books can be seen as independent art productions. Together they form a network of making and its perception. His most common technique is casting, experimenting with different metal alloys. Sometimes he uses craft traditions, sometimes he breaks with them, exploring possibilities, revealing (or inventing) lost knowledge and challenging our habits of seeing. And there is always a story to tell.

Kim Buck, born in Denmark, underwent training as a goldsmith and later pursued studies at the Institute of Precious Metals in Copenhagen. Currently residing and working in Copenhagen, he endeavours to intertwine concepts and titles with the techniques employed in his jewellery and object creations. This often involves an extensive period dedicated to developing unique techniques for each project. Continuously exploring the realm of jewellery, he strives to challenge its boundaries and broaden its scope. Consequently, a significant portion of his work can be viewed as a dialogue with traditions, a contemplation of conventions, forms, materials, and layers of meaning.
