recover is a presentation of creators manifesting various aspects of metaphorical upholstery.

It was born from the three organi
sers’ shared love of upholstery. They recognised that the literal structure of wood, wire and textile under tension, layers of thick and thin material, can be transmuted into layers of meaning in a conceptual jewellery context. This, along with conversations about the crucial need for community and healing, flowed into the title recover, encapsulating both.

Upholstering within a jewel
lery action, ranges from protective shields to decorative, cushioned offerings. Going deeper, reupholstering peels back and releases tension. It honours layers and scars that reveal one’s history and tenderness. Guarding and nourishing tenderness is the root of the curator’s purpose, through discourse, acknowledgement, support, sharing, feeding, and compassion.

The invited artists work represents multiple interpretations of the theme.

They recover discarded objects, either by restoring their integrity or shifting their identity.

They address recovery in the context of loss: seeking to find, repair, or create space to wait
for a hopeful resolution.

Recuperation is sparked by works showing empathy, offering a remedy, restoring a memory.

Works about digging and covering, exposing or breaking frameworks, and binding together
address recover structurally.

Curators Jana Brevick, Franziska Langheinrich, and Theresa Wingert call you to discover the scene they have set. There is room for breath, exploration and interpreting recover in your own terms.
