Precious.Collective is once more excited to host its biggest yearly showcase of members’ work. This year will see 59 members’ work from 22 different countries who have created beautiful pieces centred around the collective’s exhibition theme: ‘Chaos & Control’; a jewel within process(es) that fosters one or both claims towards chaos and/or control.
Without the body, how will this communicate a personal language that distils active notions and internalisations for chaos & control?
Is this a recognised state or a fleeting action?
An invested story or implied methodology?
Your jewel has a chance to capture your tangible offering for understanding a personal response to the expansive theme of ‘Chaos & Control’.
Precious has evolved organically since November 2017 into a collective of over 600 makers from around the globe. It continues to be free to all members who have been accepted for membership.
What binds Precious members together is their ambiguous relationship to notions of what ‘precious’ is. Artists who wish to become part of this group either follow this line of thinking or work in ways that challenge traditional jewellery making through unconventional materials, techniques or concepts.
Precious was created with a view to creating a ‘community’, a group that supports and inspires its members. Due to the hard work of its (unpaid) core committee, every month it hosts ‘WOMB’ Zooms (What’s On My Bench), publishes a newsletter and, importantly, enables selected members the opportunity to exhibit in venues and apply for opportunities that otherwise would not be individually financially viable.
Since its birth in 2017, Precious has organised almost 20 international exhibitions, including a week-long online Jewellery Week and a fundraiser for Ukraine as soon as the war started, which raised £7.5K. With an Instagram following of nearly 21K, Precious has become one of the accounts to follow in the unique and niche world that is Art Jewellery.
