This exhibition introduces the NINA B LIVES – Wearable Art Series, a collection of unique and limited-edition wearable objects.
Designed by Zurich-based architect and designer Nina Baier-Bischofberger, each piece is handmade from functional TPE-coated wire and bears the Nina B Lives maker’s mark tag in 3D printed steel.
Inspired by the approach of the great Bauhaus alumna and textile artist Anni Albers and the sculptural work of Alexander Calder (both of whom also made jewellery), the Wearable Art Series is all about material repurposing, movement and change. The functional materials paired with a delicate impermanence of form means that each piece adapts to the wearer – how you wear it becomes part of the jewellery itself.
The Swiss architect and designer Nina Baier- Bischofberger was raised in an art-filled world and trained at MIT and Columbia University. Her architectural oeuvre is one of highly sophisticated form-making used to create comfortably liveable spaces together with her husband Florian. The mathematically precise parametrics of their architectural and interior work is a reflection of the elegant complexity of natural geometries. Nina’s wearable art objects have both the fleeting lightness of a first sketch and the formal power of bold statement jewellery that is nevertheless comfortably wearable; each piece the result of listening to what wants to be done with the material at hand.
Nina Baier-Bischofberger works as an architect in Zurich Switzerland where she is a partner in Baier Bischofberger Architects.
Born in Switzerland she completed her undergraduate education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a double major in Architecture and Civil Engineering. She completed her Masters of Architecture at Columbia University where she met her future husband Florian Baier. After working in London with Cecil Balmond for ARUP she and Florian founded Baier Bischofberger Architects in Zurich in 2005.
Nina‘s work focuses on using her interdisciplinary skills together with the capabilities of advanced computer technology and fabrication techniques to push the boundaries of building materials and reexamine the world through the need for a sustainable future. With this she aims to meet and exceed pre-defined requirements and create exciting spaces loved by their inhabitants and users.
