Mine: a possessive pronoun – that which belongs to me, and a verb – the act of extracting metals, minerals, gemstones or other substances from the earth.

Continuing our long-standing collaboration with pioneering design company Vitsœ, Central Saint Martin’s BA Jewellery Design will be returning to Munich Jewellery Week in 2024 for our seventh exhibition together, entitled Mine. Echoing Vitsœ‘s core belief in designing thoughtfully, responsibly and intelligently, with a profound interest in all of our tomorrows, Mine will explore the intricate relationships between the ideas, materials and processes we use.

Selected works will re-examine notions of extraction; the origin, lifecycle, and ethical considerations of materials. Artists are encouraged to ‘mine’ their environments for materials and concepts, promoting resourcefulness in renewal, restoration or conscious recontextualisation.

A non-hierarchical approach to curation will see current students, graduates, staff and our extended jewellery family exhibit together. Showcasing works from emerging jewellers at the beginning of their development alongside lecturers, technicians and established artists. The ideas and objects on display reflect the future thinking, energy and diversity of practice fostered at CSM.

Selected students, staff and recent graduates from the Central Saint Martin’s BA Jewellery Design course in London, UK. The Central Saint Martin’s BA Jewellery Design course believes in a broad and experimental approach to the subject of contemporary jewellery and is proud to promote an understanding of a wide variety of materials and contexts within the field. Innovation, originality and individual identity are encouraged and developed, and students are supported in recognising and investigating the cultural, social, ethical and environmental issues relevant to jewellery and its manufacture.
