The exhibition entitled “Lückenfüller” (gap filler) arose out of an emergency. An exhibition planned for Ela Nord’s space had been cancelled on short notice, and it was clear that any artist invited so spontaneously would feel like a stopgap. As a result, Ela Nord decided to address this fact openly and use it as the title.

The term gap can be interpreted differently because a gap is also a hole, a crack, a crevice, or an opening of any kind. At the same time, there are numerous ways to fill gaps. The palette is broad and colorful, ranging from concealed, as invisible as possible, humorous and ironic, and as conspicuous as possible (for example, jewellery).

Ela Nord approached 31 jewellery artists from Austria to see if they would like to contribute something on the subject, and the results were astonishing. The most amazing thing was that several artists already had works that could be interpreted as gap fillers without originally wanting to depict them. This was almost as much fun as looking at the works created on the theme.
