KOTI KORU / STEP 2
takes last year’s theme about the greater meaning of home in our everyday life to the next level by elevating the study to stairs and staircases in different understandings and contexts. While the word KOTI means home in the Finnish language, and the word KORU means jewellery, this new exhibition takes a further step to focus on architectural designs about stairs as the inspiration for the wearable and non-wearable jewellery objects.

Stairs have had their place in symbolism through the ages. Stairs also play a part in magic and illusion: Stairs that don’t go anywhere; never-ending staircases; stairs that change in inclination. In our dreams, stairs also have different meanings, like climbing continuous spiral stairs without reaching the destination. They are also considered reflections of our emotions in different levels, whether reaching our goals and improving our skills by climbing up the stairs, or exploring deeper emotions and unresolved issues by going downward. You may feel yourself more powerful, capable and respected when going up, or more diminished when descending.

In this exhibition you can enjoy Anna Heino’s exceptional jewellery project reflected in a stunning white architectural surrounding, accompanied by a multimedia installation and presented with unique wall objects by gallantgestaltet.

Between reality and illusion, where do the stairs take you?

Finnish designer Anna Heino graduated from Lahti Institute of Design in Finland in 2005, specialising in jewellery design, and furthered her studies to obtain an MA in Design 2015. Anna founded her own brand in 2003, which designs and creates both unique pieces of jewellery and entire collections in a simple Scandinavian style. Several jewellery collections are provided to satisfy different urban trends; Anna defines her style as
insightfully simplistic. What mostly appeals to Anna’s eye is simple yet bold surfaces and patterns, and her designs often include very functional characteristics. Since 2014 Anna has been living in Munich, continuing in her unique style to influence the way people are wearing jewellery.

A
shared design approach led her to a collaboration with Martina Gallant, born in Bavaria and inspired by the world. Since studying Interior Architecture, she has been a freelance interior designer and a member of the Bavarian Chamber of Architects since 1995. After inventing the product ‘Wandtattoo’ (wall tattoo) and successfully founding and running silbensalon GmbH,  now the head of studio ‘gallant gestaltet’ since 2014, where she develops new spatial concepts and visual communication, and curates art and objects. Martina prefers to combine different design disciplines. Always looking for the good in the simple, with an eye for special details and pragmatic solutions, she likes the beautiful and the useful, and most of all the beautiful in the useful.
