INNEN – Inside: The artistic position of Karen Pontoppidan is accompanied by a fundamental upheaval of contemporary jewellery art. Against the background of the social significance of identity and gender, and of the political and social mission of art, Pontoppidan calls for an expansion of consciousness in her discipline, the dismantling and innovative renewal of her material. In her work and teaching (2006-2015 professor at Konstfack Stockholm, since 2015 professor at the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich) Pontoppidan pursues the question of how the discipline can react to the explosive issues of our epoch.

With INNEN, a series of brooches for the first time on show, the artist refers to the position of women artists in front of the art system. Painted canvas boxes, sewn and embroidered by hand or machine, flexible and elastic, mirror the falling and the resistance of women in the art world. They can be squeezed and erect themselves autonomously. Women have to resist and draw themselves up again. A funny and direct message, a communicative performance of jewellery.
