About

What is Munich Jewellery Week

Munich Jewellery Week (MJW) is an annual, independent, artist-run contemporary jewellery initiative. The success of the event grows exponentially every year, thanks to the spirit of collaboration by jewellery artists and designers from all over the world: students, emerging, mid-career and established art jewellers alike come to Munich to present their jewellery on their own terms, and in their own unique ways.
MJW has gained a reputation for being the most important event for the field worldwide, and the number one source for new talent in the field via the most experimental and innovative jewellery presentations one can find.

What is Current Obsession Current

Obsession (CO) is a digital and print magazine, and a curatorial platform exploring identity, belonging and heritage through the lens of jewellery and adornment. CO reshapes the current meaning of adornment by holding fundamental personal and cultural expressions – jewellery, wearable artefacts, digital self-enhancements, makeup art, skin and body modifications – up to the light of urgent world issues. Appreciated for its experimental approach and unconventional style, CO reimagines how jewellery is showcased and experienced. Collaborating with exceptional designers and artists, developing curatorial projects with renowned brands and cultural institutions, CO connects diverse audiences across artistic and cultural landscapes. The expertise, curiosity and drive of its team have cemented CO as a trailblazing platform for an international, cross-disciplinary network of designers, artists and cultural thinkers.

What is the relationship between CO x MJW

As an editorial publishing platform, Current Obsession has been primarily focusing on communication and building awareness around Munich Jewellery Week: through printing a map, street signs and a festival publication; as well as organising Social Clubs – panel talks and lectures, to network events and parties.

After 10+ years, we are returning to our original drive, with a renewed emphasis on editorial and curatorial work, in ways that feel more relevant for us today.
We have three main focus areas of:
Curation- Highlighting exemplary or groundbreaking work from our perspective;
Research- Bringing critical and practical perspectives together, to further advance the field;
Community- Creating spaces for dialogue and exchange.

With these points in mind we hope to strengthen the bonds of interdependence and growth, and raise the collective bar on what’s possible in contemporary jewellery, together.
Let’s go!
